CHIEF THOMAS  HOEFEL

BIOGRAPHY 

Thomas Hoefel has been the Chief of Police in the City of Burbank since December 1999, and is the 2003 President of the Los Angeles County Police Chiefs’ Association. 

He started his career in 1978 with the State University Police at Northridge, and transferred to the Burbank Police Department on January 1, 1980 .  He was promoted to Sergeant in 1983, and served in Patrol, Juvenile, Motors, the Special Enforcement Detail, and as the Assistant to the Chief.  He earned the rank of Lieutenant in 1988, and worked in Patrol and the Vice/Narcotics/Property Bureau.  He was promoted to Captain in 1991, and commanded the Uniform Division for nearly five years, and the Investigation Division for four years.

Chief Hoefel has an extensive educational background, including a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, a Master’s degree in Public Administration, a Master’s degree in Management, and a Juris Doctorate degree.  He has been licensed to practice law in California since 1982.  Chief Hoefel is a graduate of the FBI National Academy , the California P.O.S.T. Command College , and the FBI Southwest Command College .

Chief Hoefel is involved in many professional and community organizations.  He lives in Burbank with his son, Keith, and enjoys sports, writing music, traveling, and riding his Road King.
