Youth Sports camps

The City of Burbank Park, Recreation and Community Services Department provides a variety of instructional camps and classes for boys and girls.  These sports programs develop basic motor skills as well as confidence and self-esteem. These programs provide a safe and fun environment for learning.   Each session provides sport specific strategies and competitive game experience.  Instruction stresses positive reinforcement and sportsmanship Winter camps include baseball and softball.  Summer camps include baseball, basketball, flag football, softball, and volleyball.   Click Here to download registration information.

BASKETBALL                                                                                                                 

Grades 3-5

This co-ed program is designed to help players in grades 3-5.  Basketball Camp offers instruction in basic ball handling (dribbling, ball control and one/two hand passes), proper shooting technique, and both offensive and defensive court awareness.

 

Grades 6-8   

These programs have separate camps for girls and boys in grades 6-8.  Participants improve ball handling ability, including straight line moves, change of direction and other advanced ball handling skills.   Instruction is given to improve passing and shooting skills, court awareness, Man-to-Man or Player-to-Player Defense, setting a screen and pick-and-roll.

 

BASEBALL                                                                                                                      

Grades K-2 (Mini)

This program is designed for youth grades K-2. Participants are given basic instruction in baseball fundamentals, including how to throw and catch the ball, base running, hitting, and the rules of the game.

 

Grades 3-5 (Junior)             

This program is designed for youth grades 3-5. Participants are introduced to intermediate baseball fundamentals; base running/sliding, the elements of a sound swing (the stance, the stride, and the swing), defensive plays, and game situations.

 

Grades 6-8 (Regular)

This program is designed for youth grades 6-8. Participants are offered instruction in advanced baseball skills; base running, sliding, hitting and bunting, defensive plays (double, triple, squeeze play), and game situations.

 

SOFTBALL                                                                                                                       

Grades K-2 (Mini)

This program is designed for youth grades K-2. Participants are given basic instruction in baseball fundamentals, including how to throw and catch the ball, base running, hitting, and the rules of the game.

 

Grades 3-5 (Junior)

FLAG FOOTBALL                                                                                                          

Grades 3-5:  

This co-ed program is designed for boys and girls grades 3-5. Participants are offered instruction in basic fundamentals and techniques of flag football, beginning/intermediate skills; passing, receiving passes, blocking, kicking/punting, flag pulling techniques, basic rules, and game awareness strategies.

 

Grade 6-8:    

This co-ed program is designed for boys and girls grades 6-8. Participants are offered instruction in intermediate/advanced techniques of flag football; passing, receiving passes, blocking, kicking/punting, flag pulling techniques, basic rules, more advanced game awareness strategies and coverage techniques.

 

VOLLEYBALL                                                                                                                 

 Grades 3-5:  

This program is designed for boys and girls grades 3-5. Participants are offered instruction in beginning/intermediate skills; underhand and overhead passing, serving, spiking, and basic court positions.

 

Grade 6-8:    

This co-ed program is designed for boys and girls grades 6-8. Participants are offered instruction in intermediate/advanced skills; underhand and overhead passing, setting, serving (floater, jump, and let), spiking (cross-court, down the line, and dinking), blocking, digging, rolls, and both defensive and offensive court positions.
