Here is the status of various activities in the City of Burbank in light of the extraordinary events on the East coast earlier today.

All Burbank City buildings remain open for business.  There are no indications of any threats in the City of Burbank.  The Burbank Unified School District remains open for classes.

The City Council meeting scheduled for this evening has been cancelled in tribute to those who have perished. City flags will be flown at half staff.

Burbank-Glendale-Pasadena Airport remains closed to incoming and outgoing flights until further notice.  Terminals A and B are closed until further notice.  The main terminal remains open to deal with traveler and citizen inquiries.  The City of Burbank has augmented existing security forces at the Airport as a precautionary measure.  There are no indications of any threats to the Airport.  If you have no urgent business at the Airport, citizens are asked to stay away.  Call the airline about the status of any future flights.

The City of Burbank Police Department has activated its Incident Command System out of the Police & Fire Headquarters.  The Police Department is at maximum strength, as is the Fire Department.  All police officers, regardless of rank or normal duty assignment, are in uniform to increase departmental visibility.  Police patrols have been significantly increased.

At this time, the City has not activated its Emergency Operations Center, although the City continues to monitor events with neighboring cities, such as Glendale and Pasadena, the county, the state, and the federal government.

Some Burbank businesses have elected to send their employees home.  The police department reports that the Disney Tower is closed, and that Warner Bros. and Warner Records are closed.

The County Courthouse in Burbank has been closed.

Burbank Local Transit will continue to run free shuttles past its normal operating hours to facilitate those who may be returning home for any reason.  Evening athletic programs sponsored by the City have been cancelled for tonight.

Citizens desiring to donate blood can do so by contacting St. Joseph's Hospital.  Please call ahead so that the hospital can plan for your arrival.

Later this evening, at about 6:30 p.m., Burbank Mayor Bob Kramer will have an update on the situation in Burbank.  The statement will be aired on Burbank Channel 6.
