Statement from Mayor Bob Kramer

Hello, I'm Bob Kramer, the Mayor of Burbank.

By now we all know about the tragic series of events that have transpired on the East Coast.

Many of you here in Burbank may be wondering how this has affected our lives here.

Before I share what information I have with you, I know that you join me in expressing our sincere condolences to those who have suffered the loss of loved ones. Many of us in Burbank have friends or relatives in either New York City or Washington, D.C.

Here in Burbank, we are proceeding with civic life as normally as is reasonable under the circumstances.

First, the school district tells me that classes met normally today, and will meet normally tomorrow as well.

But there are some changes. Normally we hold City Council meetings on Tuesday nights. We have decided not to do that tonight out of respect for those who have lost their lives.

As I record this message, traffic at Burbank-Glendale-Pasadena Airport is still suspended. When flight operations resume we will do everything we can to let you know. For now, if you have no urgent business at the airport I ask you to stay away.

We have no threats to the Airport or any Burbank facility, but, as a precautionary measure, the City has deployed the Burbank Police Department and the Burbank Fire Department at maximum strength.

It's likely that you will notice an increased police presence on the streets of Burbank. All police personnel, regardless of rank or normal job assignment, have been placed in uniform.

The City has not, for the time being, activated its Emergency Operations Center, though we continue to monitor events with a variety of government agencies, such as our neighboring cities, the county, the state, and the federal government.

City facilities remained open today, Tuesday, and they will be open tomorrow as well. Some city businesses, however, have sent their employees home today.

In summary, there have been no incidents in Burbank, but we remain vigilant.

If events change significantly you can tune to Channel 6 for further updates. Thank you.
