Margarita Campos Named City Clerk

From a field of 21 applicants, the Burbank City Council on Tuesday, November 27, 2001, appointed long-time City employee Margarita Campos to fill the vacant position of City Clerk.  The unexpired term runs through May 2005.

Campos will start her new duties immediately.  The salary for the position is $7,000 per month.  She replace Judie Sarquiz who resigned November 1st to take the position of Assistant Financial Services Director with the City.  Deputy City Clerk Kay Moioffer has been interim Clerk during November.

"Margarita presented an outstanding combination of skills and experience.  She will serve the community well as the new City Clerk," said Mayor Bob Kramer.

The bilingual Campos, a 38-year Burbank resident, has worked in the City Council Office since 1979.  She was secretary to the Council prior to her current job as Community Assistance Coordinator.  She began her service with the City in 1974 as a legal secretary in the City Attorney's Office.

"My strengths are in my years of dedicated service and commitment to this community and in my ability to remain independent in the performance of my duties," said Campos.

Campos is a graduate of Bellarmine-Jefferson High School in Burbank.  During her tenure in the Council office, she attended college and earned an A.A. degree from L.A. Mission College and a B.S. in business law from the University of West L.A.  Her local community activities include the Boys & Girls Club of Burbank, American Red Cross, and past president of the Providence High School parent advisory board.

To fill the unexpired term of the City Clerk, the City Council put out a call for applications.  Twenty-one were received.  Each of the 21 aspiring Clerks taped a three minute statement which the Council viewed prior to Tuesday's meeting.  Fourteen of the applicants attended the November 27th Council meeting where they were interviewed by the Council.

"I am familiar with the City's operations, with the people who work here, and with the residents we serve," said Campos.  "I'm really looking forward to hitting the ground running."
