Burbank Holds "Second Chance Weekend"  For Garage Sales

October 18th and 19th is "Second Chance Weekend" in Burbank. This will be the fourth consecutive year that Burbank residents will be encouraged to conduct garage sales without being required to secure a permit.

"Second Chance Weekend" encourages recycling by making it easier to have a garage sale for selling (thereby recycling) household items. Since these items are kept out of the City’s landfill, it ultimately, lengthens the landfill’s life span. While no permits are required for garage sales on October 18th and 19th, all other regulations of the Garage Sale Ordinance are still in effect (i.e., no signs, items for sale, or displays may be placed on public property). Conducting a garage sale on this weekend will not count against the annual number of permitted garage sales for a particular residence.

The city-wide garage sale has evolved into a very popular event since becoming an element of the Burbank Garage Sale Ordinance which was amended in the year 2000. This "Second Chance Weekend" was one of the recommended amendments from a City Council-appointed task force which reviewed the Burbank Garage Sale Ordinance. This element of the ordinance was adopted to incorporate support for a statewide celebration of recycling in the month of October.

At times other than "Second Chance Weekend" residents can now secure a Burbank Garage Sale Permit on-line. Just go to www.burbankca.org/license and click on the center button "On-Line Garage Sale Permits."
