Following an extensive search process which included 15 candidates and 3 different interview panels, Burbank City Manager Mary J. Alvord has announced the selection of Robert Torrez as the Financial Services Director for the City of Burbank.  Torrez will assume his new job effective Monday, April 17. 

“I’m pleased to add Bob Torrez to the City’s Executive Team and proud to have the opportunity to appoint him as Burbank’s Financial Services Director,” said Alvord.

Since 2004 he has been Senior Vice President of Public Finance with Southwest Securities, Inc. in Los Angeles.  Although his most recent experience is with the private sector, he served as the Chief Financial Officer for the City of Long Beach from 1994-2004 and prior to that had budget experience with the cities of Long Beach and Santa Monica. 

“I’m excited about the opportunity I’ve been given to work for such a well known city, one that is so very focused on providing the highest level of community services,” said Torrez.  “I consider it a terrific opportunity.  I’ll be joining a great team, and I feel truly honored to have been selected for the position.”

He is a graduate of California State Polytechnic University, Pomona with a Bachelor of Science degree.  He also completed various graduate courses in the MBA programs at Cal State Bakersfield and Cal Poly Pomona.

Torrez was appointed by the State Treasurer to serve on the State of California Local Investment Advisory Board.  He is a member of numerous professional associations including California Society of Municipal Finance Officers, Government Finance Officers Association, American Society for Public Administration, and PERS/Public Agency Coalition.  

As Financial Services Director, Torrez’ salary will be in the range of $10,477 to $12,730 per month.
