NEWS RELEASE
August 23, 2005
Statement: The Burbank Police
Department Traffic Bureau, in cooperation with the California Office of
Traffic Safety, and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration
will be conducting a DUI check point on Saturday August 27. The location
will be announced at a later time. The purpose of the DUI check point is
to continue the education of the public and help reduce the number of
injuries and fatalities that result from drinking and driving. With more people
expected to be traveling on the roadways from now through the Labor Day
holiday, law enforcement will be out in full force conducting sobriety
checkpoints and saturation patrols to protect citizens from this
deadly crime, Lt. Rick Madrid of
the Burbank Police Department Traffic Bureau announced today. “Driving with a
blood alcohol level of .08 grams per deciliter and above is illegal in
every state,” said Lt. Madrid.
“Violators will be spending their money on bail, court, lawyers and
towing fees instead of on the last days of their summer vacations.
Refuse a sobriety test and you can lose your license on the spot and
have your car impounded.” Burbank
