Burbank Civic Pride Committee

The Burbank Civic Pride Committee is a group of citizens appointed by the City Council to encourage and promote civic involvement and pride in our community, as well as perform other advisory functions that may be delegated to it.  Members serve two year terms; half of the committee is appointed each year in May when the City Council makes their appointments.

Over the years, the Civic Pride Committee has:

--          headed a city-wide celebration of the Bicentennial of the U.S. Constitution.

--          organized the big celebration for the 50th anniversary of Burbank City Hall in 1993.

            --          supported graffiti removal efforts.

--          produced postcards: one picturing the grand reopening of the Starlight Bowl in 1993,
and one for the opening of the new Police-Fire Headquarters in 1998.

--          In 1991, researched and recommended an Official City Flower: Ceanothus, California Lilac.

--          participated annually in Burbank On Parade.

Here are some of the Burbank Civic Pride Committee's on-going efforts:

"I Love Burbank" buttons are a popular item which the Committee has given out for s eve ral years.

Plant-a-Tree Project -- raises funds from the community every March to plant more trees in City parks.  The Women's Council headed this project for 40 years.  When they disbanded in 1996, the Civic Pride Committee took over the project.  Get the latest information here.

Make a Difference Day -- As part of a 'national day of doing good' in October 1996, the Civic Pride Committee put together a community-wide volunteer effort, collecting more than $2,000 in food donations for the Burbank Temporary Aid Center.  Volunteers handed out shopping lists at local markets and collected shoppers' food donations.  This has become an annual event in Burbank, growing bigger each year with more volunteers, more locations, and more donations for the needy.

Holiday Outdoor Decorating Contest -- held every December.  This is a popular annual event.  By recognizing residents who decorate their homes, the Committee encourages a feeling of hometown pride.

Get Out the Vote -- At past Burbank elections, the Committee has put on a campaign to encourage registered Burbank voters to vote in the local elections, using street banners, ads in the newspaper, signs on the sides of the refuse trucks, and 'vote' buttons.

Civic Pride Booths -- The Committee distributes City information and promotes civic pride by hosting booths at community festivals: Fire Service Day; Magnolia Park's ' Holiday in the Park,'  the Downtown Burbank festivals, and the semi-annual arts and crafts fairs.  Stop by the booth and say 'hi.'
