Burbank Business Tax Penalty Amnesty Program
Set to Begin February 15th

Recently the Burbank City Council approved the Burbank Business Tax Penalty Amnesty Program.  As an incentive for unregistered businesses to register for and pay past business taxes owed, there will be a three month amnesty period where there will be no penalties or monetary interest charged for past non-payment of this tax.  Businesses which are either based in Burbank , or come into Burbank to provide goods or services, are responsible for registration for, and payment of this tax.  Those businesses which are not currently paying this tax will be encouraged to do so without concern of being penalized for previous non-payment of past or present business taxes owed.  The Business Tax Penalty Amnesty Program will begin on February 15, 2006 and continue through May 15, 2006 .

City business taxes, such as the Burbank Business Tax, are implemented by local governments to generate revenues to help pay for core city services, such as Police, Fire, library services, and Parks and Recreation programs.  This tax has been in effect in Burbank for 35 years and this is the first time that an amnesty program for the payment of penalties and interest associated with non-payment of this tax has been offered.

The City of Burbank ’s business tax rates are among the lowest in the State of California .  To determine whether or not your business owes the City of Burbank any past and/or present business taxes, please call the Burbank License and Code Services Division at (818) 238-5280, Monday through Friday between the hours of 8:00 am and 5:00 pm .  Or, you may call the 24 hour Business Tax Penalty Amnesty Program Hotline at (818) 238-5299 for additional information.
