APPLICATIONS

SALARY: $6,874. - $8,171.
(Salary includes a net 8% PERS contribution paid for the employee
by the City)
DEFINITION OF THE
POSITION:
Under direction, to do skilled electrical work in the
construction, maintenance and repair of an overhead and
underground electrical transmission and distribution system; and
to do related work as required.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
OF THE POSITION:
Installs and maintains transmission, distribution and street
lighting systems, both overhead and underground; climbs poles;
installs crossarms and other fixtures; strings and tops overhead
lines; installs and connects transformers, oil switches, capacitor
banks, lightning arrestors, fuses, street lights, house services
and meters; removes old poles and installs new poles, anchors and
guys; transfers energized lines to new poles; trims trees to clear
for overhead lines; installs underground duct lines, cables and
associated equipment; makes up splices; connects underground
electrical equipment; installs, services and repairs cable,
conduit, terminals and related underground electrical equipment;
operates trucks and power equipment; makes emergency repairs on
overhead and underground lines; leads and trains employees.
MINIMUM
QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE POSITION:
EDUCATION/TRAINING: Recent completion of a Line Mechanic
apprenticeship program approved by the State of California or
equivalent – OR – five years of recent Line Mechanic experience
with one year at the journey level.
LICENSE & CERTIFICATES: Applicants must possess a valid
California Class "C" Driver's License or equivalent at time of
appointment and must obtain a valid California Class “A” Driver’s
License prior to the completion of the probationary period. A
crane certification may be required based on job assignment.
SPECIAL CONDITIONS & QUALIFICATIONS: Employees in this
classification will be required to comply with the American
National Standards Institute's requirements on Practices for
Respiratory Protection. COLOR VISION: Keen color perception.
EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS: Knowledge of the methods, materials
and equipment used in the lineman/splicer trade; the California
Public Utilities Commission General Orders 95 and 128 regulations
concerning the construction and maintenance of overhead and
underground distribution systems; fundamental safety regulations,
first aid and the methods of applying resuscitation.

THE POSITION:

examination may be limited to those whose applications show the
best combination of qualifications in relation to the requirements
and duties of the position. Any part of the examination process
may be qualifying only.
